Much like Dr.V's and Blex's Blog I'm disturbed by the whole tsunami ordeal. Nothing like an underwater earthquake and 20 foot wave to end off a weekend and start off a Monday. Deepest condolences to all the families of victims of this disaster.
Nature never ceases to amaze me. The thought of an earthquake so strong that it causes a slight disruption of the earth's rotation and causes 20 foot waves is pretty scary. It leaves you feeling so helpless when you see all the destruction, disbelief and dispair.
There definately needs to be some type of tsunami/warning system in place. This doesn't feel right because it's after the fact that thousands had to die so that we could come to this conclusion. No one expects a tsunami knocking on their door early in the morning. This terrible disaster can get worse if disease begins to spread and supplies don't get to the affected areas. The American Red Cross and local Asian consulates on Monday were imploring local residents to provide donations to fund relief efforts for the victims of this weekend's deadly earthquake and tsunamis in Southeast Asia.

Diana, thanks for the information, is priceless.
What I learned today so far is that tsunamis are not common in that area, that is why there was no early detection technology deployed.
Also, they have been depleting the mangroves along the coast, seems like the mangroves are the only natural barrier against tsunamis.
There is a lot to be learned from this sad event.
