Little Village Mall Raid

At about 3:00pm yesterday, April 24, armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
officials raided the Little Village Discount Mall and seized a number of individuals
after locking over 150 inside the mall complex for nearly an hour. The raid caused
overwhelming panic and fear amongst the shoppers in the mall and the surrounding
community. The raid comes exactly one week before a planned march for immigrants
rights in downtown Chicago on May 1st. While Latinos Progresando does not support the
fabrication of illegal documents that ICE was allegedly trying to stop, the agency also
strongly opposes the use of force that has the potential to quell peaceful, positive civic
action aimed at strengthening our community. In light of recent events, Latinos Progresando strongly urges the entire LP family to join us on Tuesday, May 1 to show ICE and our lawmakers that immigrants are working for better lives for our families. Only opportunities for legal immigration, not raids, will stop the falsification of citizenship documents and allow
America to unite and move forward.
