Latina’s get ready to become empowered this spring!! The Latina Leadership Council of The Chicago Foundation for Women in partnership with Mujeres Latinas en Acción will host the Annual Beyond the Kitchen Table Workshop at DePaul University’s Egan Center on Saturday, April 16, 2005, bringing the Latina community together to educate and empower.
This unique event invites Latinas from all walks of life to share their experiences with one another. The main goal is to cultivate Latina Leadership skills through informative, yet entertaining workshops. The sessions will present ways for the women to take action-by improving their personal health and becoming more financially saavy and by affecting change in their community by becoming involved in organizations or politics. All of these aspects play a role in creating a positive balance in the lives of Latinas. Ana Maria Soto, coordinator of the event, says “ This event will give Latinas a chance to learn leaderships skills they can apply to their daily lives and share with others.”
The Latina Leadership Council is one of four councils of The Chicago Foundation for Women. Each Leadership Council informs its respective communities about the power of women’s strategic giving by hosting workshops, fundraising trainings and events to increase awareness and support within their communities This Foundation is dedicated to providing support to programs and organizations serving diverse groups of women and girls through its general grant making. Each Leadership Council is in the process of establishing a fund to provide even more support to the communities they serve. Proceeds generated though fundraising efforts by the Councils will be dedicated to these special funds.
